A battery backup, also called a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) is a device that helps provide backup power and consistent electrical flow to a computer system. It is useful however if used incorrectly, it can also have serious consequences. Here is a guide for you before attempting to unpack, install, or operate your battery backup-UPS.

1. UPS battery backup should avoid direct sunlight to reduce the danger of overheating the UPS. What's more, you can not cover the UPS' cooling vents or installing the unit near heat emitting appliances like space heaters or furnaces.

2.Operate strictly in accordance with the correct startup and shutdown sequence to avoid large fluctuations in the voltage output of the UPS power supply when the load suddenly increases or decreases suddenly.

3.Do not frequently shut down and turn on the UPS. You'd batter wait at least 30 seconds before turning on the UPS power after turning it off. The reason for most high frequency UPS battery backup failures is caused by frequently starting or shutting down.

4.It had been aproved that running a UPS at 50%-60% of its rated load can achieve highest efficency. Light load or overload ( above 80% ) may cause damage of the battery, which will reduce the battery life and should be avoided.

5.Perform regular maintenance work on the UPS power supply: observe the status of the work indicator, remove dust, measure the battery voltage, replace unqualified batteries, check the operation of the fans, and test and adjust the UPS system parameters.

Most Kstar UPS batteries should last three to five years. There are many factors which affect Battery life including environment and number of discharges. Above are some guidelines to ensure optimum life expectancy.
